How to Ace Your Portfolio Submission for BEng (Honours) in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering (CAO Code: MT 834) at MTU Kerry Campus 

 

Are you passionate about problem-solving, engineering, and project management? If so, the portfolio submission for the MT834 programme at MTU Kerry Campus is your chance to showcase your skills, creativity, and enthusiasm for engineering. As a vital part of the application process, the portfolio allows you to stand out and demonstrate your transversal and soft skills, which are as crucial as technical expertise in an engineering career. 

Why Is the Portfolio Important? 

The portfolio carries significant weight in the application process, with up to 600 points available. The points are equally split between your CAO application and the portfolio submission, emphasising its importance in securing a place in the MT834 programme.

Portfolio Submission Deadlines 

  • April 30th: For students who listed MT834 as their CAO choice for the February 1st deadline. 

What to Include in Your Portfolio 

Your portfolio is an opportunity to highlight your experience, skills, and creativity. It can feature: 

  • School Projects: Engineering, Construction, Science (Physics & Chemistry), Graphics (DCG), and other such practical subjects 
  • Extra-Curricular Projects: BT Young Scientist, SciFest, and other such projects 
  • Work of life experience: Demonstrate how you solved a problem or challenge you faced at work, on the farm, in school, or in your hobbies or sports activities. 
  • Innovation & Creativity: Other projects where you displayed enthusiasm and originality in tackling challenges.

Key Tips for Success: 

  1. Focus on Sections 2 & 5: These sections carry approximately 60% of the marks. 
  1. Keep It Concise: A 4-5 page submission is sufficient. 
  1. Use Visuals: Include images, diagrams, drawings, or even videos to illustrate your project and thought process. 
  1. Explain Clearly: Highlight your creativity, problem-solving skills, and enthusiasm for engineering. Ensure your thought process is easy to follow.

All portfolios must be submitted via email to reediKerry@mtu.ie. Ensure you’ve followed the template and included all necessary information before the submission deadline.
