The REEdI team has continued to engage with students, industry, and the wider community through a series of dynamic events. Highlights included the Kerry Science Festival and STEM South West Expo, where we inspired young learners with hands-on STEM activities, the Engineering Symposium, which brought students and industry together to share projects and insights, and our first Alumni Networking event, connecting current students with past graduates. Each of these events provided valuable opportunities to celebrate achievements, foster collaboration, and highlight the innovation and creativity that drives REEdI and our students.
Kerry Science Festival
The Kerry Science Festival 2025 was a fantastic celebration of science, innovation, and discovery, bringing together students, educators, researchers, and the wider community to explore new ideas and spark curiosity across all ages. Highlights included the REEdI Engineering Symposium, which showcased student projects and research, as well as Showcase Day, which welcomed over 1,000 visitors to MTU North Campus for hands-on activities, interactive exhibits, and workshops.
REEdI Engineering Symposium
The REEdI Engineering Symposium was one of the highlights of the 2025 Kerry Science Festival, offering a unique platform for students and industry professionals to connect and exchange ideas. Second-year students showcased their projects to industry representatives, presenting their work in the hope of securing placements for their final two years of the REEdI programme. The event combined cutting-edge engineering research with practical applications, emphasizing the role of engineering in solving today’s and tomorrow’s challenges.
The symposium featured a diverse lineup of speakers, including Prof. Joseph Walsh and the IMaR Research Centre team, Niamh Wafer from Engineers Ireland, Prof. Denis Dennehy of Swansea University, Fiona Boyle, Director of REEdI, and Dr. Seán McSweeney, Faculty Dean of Engineering. Adding a personal perspective, students Caren Karamagi (on placement with Astellas) and Jimmy Keane (on placement with Sanmina) shared their experiences, offering insights and inspiration to their peers preparing for next year’s placements.
REEdI Alumni Networking Event

The REEdI Alumni Networking event brought together current B.Eng in Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering students and alumni for an evening of conversation, insight, and professional connection. Students were able to hear firsthand about alumni experiences on the programme, including work placements, career paths, and the practical applications of their studies. These discussions provided guidance, inspiration, and a real-world perspective that supports students as they move forward in their own degree journeys.
STEM South West

REEdI was proud to take part in the STEM South West Expo joining thousands of students from Cork and Kerry to celebrate Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. The event offered a fantastic opportunity to engage with young students, sparking curiosity and excitement about STEM and the possibilities it offers. The day showcased the growing enthusiasm for STEM across the South West and reinforced REEdI’s commitment to inspiring the next generation of engineers.
