Bio

Dr Cathal Geary is a Lecturer of Manufacturing Engineering working on the REEdI project at Munster Technological University.

He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering(1998) and a PhD in Medical Device Design(2008) from University of Limerick. Through his PhD he designed, developed and tested a new bio-mimetic glenoid component to provide improved wear, loosening and robustness to shoulder joint replacements and published a family of patents relating to this research.

Cathal has over 20 years’ experience working as a Manufacturing Engineer in Medical Device, Pharmaceutical and Automotive companies across Ireland, Europe and in the US. This experience spans the full Product/Process Lifecycle from Product Design, In-Vitro Testing, Tech-Transfer, Process Characterisation, Validation, Ramp-Up, Product Launch, Product/Process Optimisation.

He has gained extensive experience in operational excellence, particularly in Polymer Processing and Process Validation and is passionate about achieving success through strong teamwork and mentoring others.

Outside of work, he enjoys Kitesurfing and spending time with his family in the great outdoors.
