Bio

Niall Fitzgerald is an Engineering Fellow working on the REEdI project at Munster  Technological University. 

He holds Bachelor of Technology in Electronic Engineering from Waterford Institute of  Technology (2001) and a Masters of Engineering Science from University College Cork  (2009). 

Niall has over 15 years’ experience working in research and development across the  Automotive, LED lighting, Dairy equipment and renewable energy sectors. He has also worked  on a European Joint Research Commission (JRC) project with University College Cork. 

He has worked as an Electronic Engineer with responsibilities for both software and hardware  development. Most recently he was the electronic engineering supervisor, with responsibilities  for a team of electronic engineers, working on the development of high voltage automotive  electronics for a global EV manufacturer. 

Niall has worked in renewable energy research in his time at UCC. He completed a masters  by research which involved modelling wind energy integration onto the electricity grid using  demand response and energy storage techniques. He also has experience with grid capacity  modelling and pumped hydro energy storage. 

Outside work Niall enjoys Kitesurfing, surfing and organic market gardening.
