Industry Engagement
Industry engagement is an integral part of the REEdI team’s commitment to establishing a strong and mutually beneficial relationship with our industry partners. This engagement has taken the form of:
- Individual meetings with prospective industry partners
- Programme development workshops with industry partners
- Workshops and information sessions
- REEdI Engineers in Residence (EiR) industry site visits
- Student Engineer industry site tours
Individual meetings with prospective industry partners
The programme to date has established relationships with 30 key industry partners with 23 fully signed to the programme. You can read more about our industry partners here.
Programme development workshops with industry partners
Industry workshops were held online to discuss various points of the programme and to gain insight from the industry partners.
Mentorship Workshop
The mentorship workshop took place on December 1st, 2022, with 18 industry colleagues and 10 MTU and UL staff. Attendees provided valuable insights in response to specific questions around mentorship and work placement of students. The day concluded with a SWOT analysis of all teams’ inputs and a follow up action plan will be developed by the REEdI team to address the gaps identified by industry in the area of mentorship.
REEdI Engineers in Residence (EiR) industry site visits
The Engineers in Residence, as part of their ongoing commitment to our industry partners have participated in onsite tours of our industry partners. During these sites visits we have had facility tours, we have discussed the work placement for our student engineers and also discussed future collaboration between REEdI and the industry partners. To date we have completed visit to the following:

- ThermoFisher Scientific, Cork
- Alps Alpine, Millstreet
- Avonmore Electrical, Mallow
- Microchip Ireland, Ennis
- RTR Electronics, Limerick
- Astellas, Killorglin
- Liebherr Container Cranes, Killarney
The remaining REEdI industry partners will be visited in 2023.
Student Engineer industry site tours
To continue with industry and student engagement the EiRs facilitated industry tours of industry partners. To date we have visited:
- Stryker Neurovascular, Cork
- WAZP, Tralee
- Liebherr Container Cranes, Killarney
These tours have been very successful and have clearly impacted on the students vision of what a career in engineering can look like and highlighted the diversity of roles within industry partners and between industry partners. The student engineers have been very engaged during these visits and many have commented on how enjoyable the visits were.
