On Friday, the 15th November, the REEdI@MTU team were delighted to host this year’s Engineering Symposium 2025 as part of Kerry Science Week in An Cuan, Munster Technological University’s (MTU) newly opened STEM building.

The Engineering Symposium is a celebration of engineering talent, industry collaboration, and emerging technologies shaping the world around us and we were delighted to welcome academic leaders, industry experts, industry partners, current REEdI students and REEdI alumni.

A core feature of the symposium was the inspiring work presented by second-year REEdI students from the Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering) at MTU Kerry (MT834). Their course projects showcased creativity, technical skill, and the collaborative mindset at the heart of the REEdI programme. These presentations not only highlighted the students’ ingenuity but also offered valuable opportunities to connect with industry partners and explore future work placement and career pathways.

Dr. Fiona Boyle opened the event with insights on future skills needs in intelligent and sustainable manufacturing systems, followed by an update on engineering at MTU from Dr. Sean McSweeney.

Prof. Denis Dennehy of Swansea University delivered a keynote on the impact of AI and big data analytics on business and society, while Niamh Wafer of Engineers Ireland discussed the voice of the engineering profession . Students also shared their workplace experiences in a dedicated “Student Voices” segment, and Prof. Joseph Walsh highlighted innovation within the IMaR Industry Research Centre.

The symposium concluded with the presentation of Student Awards where Shane Kelleher was awarded for best overall presentation and Elaine O Donovan was awarded best poster.
